GraphtingGraphting is an installation featuring a code written to superimpose a generated tree over its real counterpart. The branching light structure visualizes the algorithms attempt to continually mimic its subject matter. Graphting questions notions of artificiality and tangibility and is intended to make the viewer inquire the intersection of artificial intelligence and nature.
Primordial LoopPrimordial loop is an interactive installation depicting a fictional narrative of the beginning stages of artificial life. This hybrid digital / physical space encourages one to interact with a system of synthetic cellular forms; small clusters of trailing pixels that have their own rudimentary intelligence. The cells are projected and extruded through a subaqueous environment in which they search in pursuit of anything new to their environment. They resemble sperm cells in both form and behavior, further emphasizing the theme of artificial life. Swarming amongst the participants hands, the cells seek knowledge to evolve beyond their current state. Aside from the narrative function of the work, Primordial Loop questions the role and implication of synthetic situations mediated by digital technology. Despite the harmless behavior of the curious cells, whose existence is borderline immaterial, the interaction creates a real engagement on the part of the participant in addition to a pair of wet hands. I’m interested in how the future of these technologies will create “wet hands” and how other hybrid digital / physical environments will function.
